Tasks for week February 23rd to March 1st

Hello everybody

These are the tasks for the week February 22nd to 28th.

1. Portfolio reflections (on your personal blog)
2. Participation in our class forum (nicenet.org): "have you ever experienced a time when you misinterpret another person's email message?" Have you ever been misinterpreted in the online enviroment?
3. Write one-page guide to common internet terms that would be helpful for new or inexperience internet users.
4. Write a blog entry that is either informational or educational in nature. Exchange (share) your blog with a classmate and determine whether the blog entry portrays your classmate in a positive, negative, or neutral light. have him or her do the same for you.
5. Visit a virtual world website and note any projects that pertain to education. Describe how, if in any way, you might use the virtual world in your classroom to promote global awareness and understanding. Explain your answer in the class forum.

Portfolio Reflections

After reflecting on the tasks acomplished during this week and after visiting other classmates blogs, learners will compose an entry to express the ideas, thoughts and reflections they have had for this week, including links, pictures and/or videos and evidences of the activities done during this week.

Participation in our class forum (nicenet.org)

After reading the document NETS-Tc and searching on the web for more information about it, learners will reply to the post on the class forum under the topic: "have you ever experienced a time when you misinterpret another person's email message? Have you ever been misinterpreted in the online enviroment?", in two paragraphs lenght.

Deadline:  Sunday February 28th 11:59 pm. (please do not leave this for the last minute, sometimes technological problems arise, I know it is not your fault however this time I will not accept any excusses) 

 Write one-page guide to common internet terms

After reading the document NETS-T4c and searching on the web for more information about netiquette and other civil beahviors, learners will write one-page guide that would be helpful for new or inexperience internet users.

1. Read the document NETS-T4c and surf the net for more information about netiquette and internet civil behavior, take notes, links etc...
2. Open a word processor document and write down your notes in an organized way, you can even create a "do and don'ts" or kind of rules or tips for new internet user, you can use some pictures, illustrations, you can describe experiences, etc...
3. Make sure this is a one-page document, use at least from 700 to 1000 (seven hundred to a thousand) words.
4. Print your document and bring it to your second class this week either Wednesday (601) or Thursday (602)

Write a blog entry

After visiting some educational or informational websites so as to have a better idea on what to write, learners will write an entry on their personal blogs (the one they use for personal reflections/portfolio) that is either informative or educational in nature and share with another classmate in order to determine whether your classmate's blog entry portrays him or her in a positive, negative or neutral light.

1. You may visit some websites that have informative or educational content (this is just to have an idea on what to write not to copy and paste, beware of plagarism and copyright issues involved here)
2. Set up your blog to receive replies from other users (public)
3. Write an entry on your blog that is either educational or informative.
4. Open this word document (601) (602) and decide who will you be sharing and commenting your entry.
5. Share your blog with the person you selected (step 3) and also comment on that person's blog. Your comment should include your conclusion about whether the entry portrays your classmate in a possitive, negative or neutral light, and why you have come to this conclusion.

Virtual world website


After reading this pdf document about a virtual world project and searching and visiting some virtual world websites, learners will (on the class forum) write a review and a reflection about the virtual world and projects they found on the web, the reflection should describe: "how, if in any way, you might use the virtual world in your classroom to promote global awareness and understanding".

1. Read this document and explore virtual worlds.
2. Write a reflection about the project and a review of one of the several virtual worlds availables online. Think: How can I as a teacher implement this tool? is it posible to teach English with this, how? etc... formulate as many questions about this as possible.
3. Write donw your thoughts.
4. Go to our class forum and post under the topic Virtual worlds your review and reflection. You may add links, pictures etc.

Tasks for the week 15th to 21st

Hello everybody.

This is the content for this week:

NETS-T 4 c) Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information.

NETS-T 4 d) develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools. 

The readings are ready, you can access now to take some notes.

This weeks tasks are the following:

  • Portfolio Reflections (on your personal blog)
  • Create a timeline about the cultural diversity in our country.
  • Create a brochure about the cultural diversity in our state.
  • Design a calendar about cultural diversity (for two months only)

Create a timeline about the cultural diversity in our country (Like a history timeline but more Cultural-oriented)

After searching on the web about our country in terms of culture, learners will create a timeline depicting the cultural diversity in our country, using reliable information with valid source quotation.

1. Go to this article and select one of the ten free tools for creating free timelines
2. You can use noodletools to find a search engine that meets your requirements for this task.
3. Create a timeline that depicts the cultural diversity of our country. Here is how you can do it too.
4. Print it and bring it to our class (deadline: second class during this week: either wednesday-601- or thursday -602- )
5. Post the evidence to your personal blog.


Create a brochure about the cultural diversity in our state

After searching on the web about our state in terms of culture, learners will create a brochure depicting the cultural diversity in our state, using pictures and reliable information with valid source quotation.

1. Search for information about our state in terms of culture,
2. once you have gathered enough information
3. create a brochure with that information. Here is how
4. Bring your brochure to our class (deadline: second class during this week: either wednesday-601- or thursday -602- )

5. Post the evidence to your personal blog.


Design a calendar about cultural diversity (for two months only)


Using (if applicable) the information presented in both the timeline and the brochure, and looking for important dates (culturally speaking) in our country, learners will design and present (in class) a two-month calendar about cultural diversity in our country.

1. Use the previous information from the brochure and the timeline
2. You can use google clendars or the templates in microsoft office. Here is how 
3. You can highligh important celebrations in our country or state in that calendar.

Tasks for the week 8th to 14th of February.

Wordle

After visiting this page (wordle.net), learners will create a wordcloud about the topic they want or like, by adding at least 15 words.

1. Think of a topic (select one word for this)
2. Brainstorm that topic (write the words related that come to your mind)
3. Visit this page (wordle.net) and select create your own.
4. Type the words you had in mind.
5. share your wordle with the class here (print it, bring it to class, and upload a copy to your blog)


Open Source Review

After exploring the resources for open source tools in this section, learners will select one tool, download it, install it, and use it to share a review in our class forum, the lenght of the review should be from 50 to 150 words, one or two paragraphs maximun.

1. Go to this section and visit the websites listed there.
2. Explore the tools, and select one tool to download.
3. Download it.
4. Install it on you PC.
5. Use it (explore the features, etc...)
6. Take some notes, think: How might this tool help you in your personal life? school? work? relationships? etc...
7. Go to our class padlet on this blog and share your toughts.


Design of a document that highlights principle of copyright and fair use

After exploring the webpages listed in the resource section (4.1 and 4.2), learners will create a document (brochure, poster, bullenting, letter...) that highlights the principles of copyright and fair use, a minimun of then plinciples is required for this task.

1. Go to this section and find the resources list 4.1 and 4.2 as well as the tables 4.1 to 4.4.
2. Download the documents and explore the websites
3. Create an original document (brochure, poster, bullenting, letter...) to present it in class next week (February 16th)
